Para mim Paris é das cidades mais bonitas do mundo, na qual não me canso de passear. Parece que foi pintada numa tela de um quadro impressionista. Cidade do amor e também da arte, tal como se encontra tão bem retratada no filme Midnight in Paris (2011), onde Woody Allen contextualiza a cidade no período da Belle Époque, Era de ouro da beleza, envolta num clima artístico, sendo que muitos artistas escolheram Paris para sua casa e como fonte de inspiração. Fruto disso é a vasta oferta de mais de 150 museus nesta cidade. Como amante de arte deixo-vos ficar o meu top 10 de museus de arte de Paris.

For me, Paris is one of the most beautiful cities of the world, where I never get tired of walking around. It looks like it was painted on a canvas of an impressionist painting. City of love and art, as portrayed in the film Midnight in Paris (2011), where Woody Allen contextualizes the city in the Belle Époque, the golden period of beauty, surrounded by an artistic climate, the reason why many artists had chosen Paris for their home and as their source of inspiration. As a result, there are more than 150 museums in this city. As an art lover I leave you with my top 10 of Paris art museums.

10 - Petit Palais

De pequeno, o Petit Palais só tem o nome. Construído para a Exposição Universal de 1900, o imponente prédio, localizado junto aos Champs Élysées, abriga hoje o Museu de Belas Artes de Paris, sendo também palco para grandes exposições temporárias. Em 2010, visitei neste museu uma exposição temporária de bonecas vestidas por criadores de alta costura, um mimo para quem gosta de moda. O café do museu abre-se para o jardim, sendo um sítio bastante agradável para tomar uma bebida.

The Petit Palais only is small on its name. Built for the Universal Exposition of 1900, the imposing building, located next to the Champs Élysées, houses today the Museum of Fine Arts of Paris, being also the stage for great temporary exhibitions. In 2010, I visited at this museum a temporary exhibition of dolls dressed by haute couture creators, a treat for fashionistas. The museum café opens onto the garden, being a pleasant place to have a drink.

9 - Palais de Tokyo

Localizado junto ao Rio Sena, com uma vista envergonhada para a Torre Eiffel, que se esconde atrás das árvores do outro lado do rio, encontra-se este museu, considerado um dos melhores espaços de arte contemporânea de Paris. Por fora é um edifício majestoso, por dentro no entanto, parece um prédio abandonado. Proporciona um contraste interessante. A livraria vale mesmo a pena. Eu gosto sempre de visitar as lojas dos museus, costumam ter livros, postais e peças com design diferente. A livraria deste museu não é excepção!

Located by the River Seine, with a shy view to the Eiffel Tower, which is hidden behind the trees on the other side of the river, you can find this museum that is claimed as one of the best spaces of contemporary art in Paris. On the outside it’s a majestic building, but on the inside, it seems like an abandoned building. Which provides an interesting contrast. The bookstore really worth it. I always like to visit the museum shops, because they usually have books, postcards and pieces with different designs. The bookstore of this museum is no exception!

Pequeno museu de arte bruta, localizado ao lado da escadaria que vai dar ao Sacré Coeur em Montmartre. Entrei por curiosidade, uma vez que o edifício em ferro chamou a minha atenção, e fiquei bastante agradada com a exposição temporária que encontrei: HEY! Modern art and pop culture (dezembro de 2015). Não é permitido fotografar os trabalhos expostos.

A small museum of art brut, located next to the stairs to the Sacré Coeur at Montmartre. I walked in by curiosity, since the building in iron got my attention, and I was quite pleased with the temporary exhibition that I luckily found: HEY! Modern art and pop culture (December, 2015). It was not allowed to photograph the artworks.

7 - Espace Dali

Situado no coração do pitoresco bairro de Montmartre, este museu expõe uma das maiores colecções de obras de Dali em França. Apesar de não ser um espaço muito grande, não podia deixar de estar no meu top, dada a minha admiração pelo trabalho deste extravagante pintor. Apresenta alguns desenhos, pinturas, esculturas e o famoso sofá do lábio. Não é tão deslumbrante como o Museu deste pintor na sua terra Natal, em Figueres, mas obrigatório para qualquer admirador da obra de Dali, que esteja de passagem por Paris.

Located at the heart of the picturesque neighborhood of Montmartre, this museum exhibits one of the biggest collections of Dali’s artworks of France. Although not being a very big space, it has to be on my top list, given my esteem for the work of this extravagant painter. It features some drawings, paintings, sculptures and the famous lip sofa. It is not as dazzling as the museum of this painter in his native land in Figueres, but a must-see for any admirer of Dali's work, who is passing through Paris.

Desde a minha primeira ida a Paris, que este museu se encontra na minha lista de museus a visitar. No entanto, foi apenas em 2015 que o consegui conhecer, uma vez que esteve bastante tempo em remodelação. Picasso, co-fundador do revolucionário movimento cubista, foi um dos muitos artistas que se instalou em Paris no século XX, havendo um grande museu dedicado exclusivamente a si, no coração de uma das minhas zonas favoritas da cidade, Marrais. Para além de poderes conhecer cerca de 5000 obras do pintor, tal como desenhos, pinturas, fotografias ou esculturas, é também possível conhecer melhor a sua história de vida. Achei bastante interessante o seu percurso e a influência politica que teve na sociedade da sua época.

This museum was on my to-do list, since my first time in Paris. However, only in 2015, I had the pleasure to go there, once it was so much time in remodeling. Picasso, a co-founder of the revolutionary cubist movement, was one of many artists who settled in Paris in the 20^th century, consequently he has a large museum dedicated exclusively to himself, in the heart of one of my favorite areas of the city, Le Marrais. Besides of you being able to see about 5.000 works of the painter, such as drawings, painting, photography or sculpture, it is also possible to get to know better his life story. I found his career and the political influence on the society of his time very interesting.

5 - Musée D’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris

Localizado mesmo ao lado do Palais de Tokyo, a partir do qual é possível fazer uma agradável caminhada até à Torre Eiffel, encontra-se este museu de arte moderna. O seu acervo conta com mais de 8000 obras, entre elas obras de Matisse, Picasso, Modigliani, Georges Braque, Francis Picabia ou Robert Delaunay, do qual destaco um dos quadros que cobre parte de uma das paredes do museu. Apresenta também uma coleção de arte contemporânea, a qual não explorei devidamente.

Costuma ter exposições temporárias interessantes. A última que visitei foi relacionada com o trabalho de Andy Warhol (dezembro de 2015).

Located side by side with the Palais de Tokyo, from where it is possible to make a pleasant walk to the Eiffel Tower, you will find this museum of modern art. Its collection has more than 8000 works, among them works by Matisse, Picasso, Modigliani, Georges Braque, Francis Picabia or Robert Delaunay, of whom I highlight one of the paintings that covers part of one of the walls of the museum. It also features a collection of contemporary art, which I didn’t explore properly.

It usually has some interesting temporary exhibitions. The last that I visited was related to Andy Warhol’s work (December of 2015).

4 - Musée de l’Orangerie

Pequeno museu, localizado numa antiga estufa de laranjas no bonito Jardim das Tulherias. Conhecido pelas salas ovais, onde se encontram expostos os famosos “Les Nymphéas” (os nenúfares) de Monet. O museu apresenta também uma colecção de pintura impressionista e pós-impressionista. Não foi permitido tirar fotos no interior do museu.

A small museum, located at an old orange greenhouse at the beautiful Tuileries Gardens. It is known for the oval rooms where are exposed the famous “Les Nymphéas” (water lilies) of Monet. The museum also features an impressionist and post-impressionist art collection. At this museum, it wasn’t allowed to take photos on the inside.

Este museu, inaugurado em 1977, apresenta uma arquitetura futurista e irreverente, da autoria de Renzo Piano e Richard Rogers. Marca a diferença na zona de Beaubourg, vale a pena passar por ali, nem que seja para ver o edifício apenas por fora! Esta zona é muito gira, é fácil encontrar arte urbana e bastantes lojas vintage.

O museu apresenta uma rica coleção de arte moderna e contemporânea e costuma ter exposições temporárias bastante interessantes. Já tive a oportunidade de visitar uma exposição do Salvador Dali e outra dedicada exclusivamente ao Surrealismo. O espaço interior do museu também é giro. Destaco sobretudo a vista que se tem de toda a cidade à medida que subimos as escadas rolantes até ao último piso do museu! A vista quase que pode ser considerada a verdadeira masterpiece deste museu, para mim uma das mais bonitas sobre os telhados e chaminés de Paris!

This museum, opened in 1977, presents a futuristic and irreverent architecture by Renzo Piano and Richard Rogers. It stands out in the area of Beaubourg, being worth to pass through, even if it is just to see the building from the outside! This area is pretty cool, and it is easy to find out some urban art and a lot of vintage shops.

The museum features a rich collection of modern and contemporary art and it usually has some temporary exhibitions quite interesting. I had the opportunity to visit an exhibition of Salvador Dali and another one dedicated exclusively to the Surrealism. The inside space of the museum is also very nice. Specially, I would like to highlight the view of the whole city, as we climb the escalators to the top floor of the museum! The view can almost be claimed as the true masterpiece of this museum, for me one of the most beautiful views over the roofs and chimneys of Paris.

2 - Musée du Louvre

O Museu dos museus, talvez o mais famoso do mundo! É realmente grandioso e riquíssimo, com cerca de 35 000 obras de arte, que vão desde os artefactos das antigas civilizações, como a Fenícia, Babilónia, Egípcia ou Grega, às grandes masterpieces renascentistas de Leonardo Da Vinci como a Mona Lisa… Apresenta também um grande espólio em termos de artes decorativas e o próprio palácio que é lindíssimo! Seriam necessárias várias semanas para ver este museu ao pormenor, por isso o melhor é mesmo selecionar as alas que se querem ver. Para mim a única desvantagem deste museu é que é tão grande que acabamos por ficar cansados. Temos que estar realmente com disposição para o explorar, ou então perdemo-nos no meio de tanta obra de arte!

The museum of the museums, maybe the most famous of the world! It is really great and very rich, with about 35,000 artworks, ranging from the artifacts of ancient civilizations such as Phoenicia, Babylon, Egyptian or Greek, to the great Renaissance masterpieces of Leonardo Da Vinci, like the Mona Lisa... It also features a huge spoil in terms of decorative arts and the palace itself is very beautiful! It would be necessary several weeks to see this museum in detail, so it’s better if you select the wings that you want to see. For me the only disadvantage of this museum is that it is so big that we end up getting exhausted. We really have to be in a mood for exploring it or so we get lost in the middle of so many artworks!

1 - Musée d’Orsay

O espaço do museu, por si só, torna-o especialmente encantador! Instalado numa antiga estação de comboios, a Gare de Orsay, localizada na margem esquerda do Rio Sena (no VII arrondissement), este museu alberga uma interessante coleção de arte, tanto de pintura como escultura. As esculturas encontram-se expostas nos corredores centrais da “estação”, combinando perfeitamente com este edifício do século XIX. Para além desta harmoniosa combinação que torna o ambiente do museu tão especial, a coleção de pintura, apesar de não ser tão vasta como a do Louvre, tem obras de alguns dos pintores de que mais gosto, tais como Degas, Renoir, Monet ou Van Gogh. Do terraço é possível ter uma vista bonita sobre o Museu do Louvre através de um relógio enorme!

By itself, the space of the museum is especially charming! Housed in a former railway station, the Gare d’Orsay, located on the left bank of the River Seine (in the VII arrondissement), this museum houses an interesting collection of art, both painting and sculpture. The sculptures are exposed at the main hall of the “station”, matching perfectly with the building of the 19^th century. Beyond this harmonious combination that makes the museum environment so special, the collection of paintings, although being not as vast as the one of the Louvre, exhibits artworks by some of my preferred painters such as Degas, Renoir, Monet or Van Gogh. From the terrace it’s possible to have a beautiful view to the Louvre through a huge clock!
